The Monroe Area Cloudbusters Radio Control Club
is a non-profit hobby organization approximately 100 members strong. Our stated goals are to:
  • Encourage interest in radio control modeling
  • Provide flight instruction for novice pilots
  • Promote the good name of radio control modeling in the community
  • Foster an exchange of ideas on radio control modeling
Flying Sites We have access to two flying sites; one for land-based aircraft and one for water-based "Float Fly" planes. Click Flying Site Maps! for more location info & maps.

Our AMA-sanctioned primary flying site is located in Nike Park, part of the old Nike missile base at Newport and Telegraph Roads, in a section managed by the Monroe Department of Parks and Recreation. The park entrance is off Newport Road, approximately seven tenths of a mile west of Telegraph. Our flying field is at the south end of the road entering the park.

Our Float Fly site is located inside Sterling State Park. If you've never flown off the water or seen it done, come on down enjoy this unique version of our hobby! Float Fly sessions are tentatively scheduled for the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of the month, starting in May and continuing until it gets too cold in the fall. Starting time is approximately 10AM.

Join the Club! New members are welcome with the requirements that they be over 18 years of age, show proof of AMA membership, and pay a $10 application fee and $40/year club dues. Training for new flyers is provided at no additional cost. Note: Junior Memberships are available for applicants under the age of 18. Details upon request.

Training for new fliers is held at the field on Wednesday evenings, starting the first week in May, and continues thru late October. Training begins at 4PM and ends at dusk, weather permitting.

If you have a plane and radio system, they will be inspected to assure airworthiness before you are permitted to begin training. Your instructor will get your plane into the air by connecting a "buddy box" to your radio, and will turn control over to you to learn how to maneuver the aircraft. Typical training duration is approximately 6 to 10 weeks.

If you don't have an airplane, you may be allowed to learn to fly using the club trainer, if available.
